I would if I had it. Carfax is such a scam. I bought the “unlimited” reports for a month but really it is limited to 5 reports or something. I don’t know how they get away with it but I suppose they are a necessary evil.

It gets a 76 from Autocheck and turns up nothing suspicious. No accidents, all Texas vehicle with mileage of 158,419 in 8/2014. Autocheck says it had 4 owners.

They’re not necessary, that’s the REAL scam. They’re not even accurate! Of the last 3 cars I’ve bought, NONE of the accidents they were in showed up. My 2003 Impreza had been in an accident before I bought it, clean Carfax. My MINI has had 4 body damage claims (all handled by insurance, so they would’ve been reported by now) from being messed up in parking lots, clean Carfax. The 2006 Impreza I just sold had been in a pretty serious accident, clean Carfax.

Good to know. I haven’t experienced such inaccuracies thankfully. Only one was my mom’s car. It was 25 years old, claimed to be one owner on carfax but she was the second.

They’re pretty good about ownership details. It seems the data they get from the government is pretty accurate. It’s the insurance companies that either aren’t providing the data, or are providing data they’re not using.
